NCLB in the News

The No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, which was up for reauthorization in 2007, but has yet to be acted on by Congress, continues to be featured regularly in media stories all over the country. School takeovers, the funding debate, the effectiveness of student performance measures, and the reform agenda are just a few issues surrounding NCLB. Recognizing the importance of remaining current on the discussion, Public Education Network provides NCLB in the News, a website venue dedicated to highlighting recent news events related to the act, with links to articles and a summary of the key issues raised therein. Articles are organized from most recent to oldest -- this particular collection having begun in November 2006 -- and are identified by the following topics: Achievement Gap, Funding, NCLB Litigation, New Congress, Reauthorization, School Performance (AYP), School Takeovers, Student Performance Standards (Testing), Teacher Quality, Teacher Training, and Teaching Methods.

The collection will be updated periodically. Please note that this section does NOT include reports, analyses, and trade journal articles, but concentrates on the newspaper dailies to give the viewer a pattern of NCLB major concerns of local communities. Longer reports appear under each of the NCLB Action Briefs found elsewhere. Where possible, we have copied the article in its entirety. However, this collection cannot provide every news article that may have appeared about NCLB during a particular period.
