Carmen A. Sarnicola Award
for Excellence in Communications
The Carmen A. Sarnicola Awards Program has been created to recognize and encourage excellence in communications
by local education funds. Named for the co-director of
the Mon Valley Education Consortium, the awards program
honors the memory of a tireless champion of public education
whose life as a superintendent, principal, and teacher
reflected his deep commitment to ensuring that every
child had the opportunity to learn.
The awards serve to showcase the many innovative ways local education funds use communications to advance the goal of school reform in the communities they serve.
The program also seeks to inform all Public Education
Network members about the power of strategic communications
as a deliberate and managed process that can inspire
action and results. The program awards communications
that are comprehensive, integrated, targeted, and timely.
The 2007 Carmen A. Sarnicola Awards were given to the Public Education Foundation for their video; Portland Schools foundation for their annual report; Alliance for Education for their electronic newsletter; Norwalk Education Foundation for their print newsletter; and the San Francisco Education Fund for their special report.
